Paper-Cuts 2011

The current papercuts use pictorial material from various print media. After disrupting or almost destroying these images – by interferences like scratching, sanding, scribbling, tearing or cutting up – they are often combined into a new pictorial context by layering them.

More and more graphic elements like automated or (pseudo-)individuel gestures appear in these works. The "Subjective" is becoming the placeholder as antagonist to the idealized but depersonalized and exploited subjects depicted in advertisement and media. After removing the original – mostly ideal typical – image content and combining the leftovers with other layers new spaces are created and associations are directed. The image reveals itself once more as projection surface and association space.

"Collage technique is the systematical exploitation
of coincidental or artificially provoked gathering of
two or more incompatible realities on a seemingly
improbable basis – and the spark of poetry which
emerges from the juxtaposition of these realities."

(Max Ernst)
